πΏ Shower Steamer Starter Bundle β Instructions
π‘οΈ Safety & Storage
- IMPORTANT: Do not exceed 24 drops of essential oil per steamer (β 60 g). Shower steamers use more EO than bath bombs because they are inhaled, not soaked in.
- Never use shower steamers in the bath β the high EO content may irritate skin.
- Always store finished steamers in a cool, dry place, away from humidity.
- Make sure moulds and tools are completely dry before starting.
- Use shower steamers within 2β4 months for best performance.
- If a steamer develops spots, softness, or clumping, discard and make a fresh batch.
- For children or sensitive individuals, use fewer drops of essential oil per batch.
- Avoid direct skin contact with undiluted essential oils.

πΏ How it Works + Tips
- Your shower steamer kit is designed to be customisable and fun.
- More EO = stronger scent throw β but never exceed safe limits.
- Clay helps bind the mixture, slows the release and gives steamers a creamy look.
- Place the steamer upright (on the side) in the shower, not flat β this helps it diffuse more slowly and last longer.
- Colours and botanicals (optional) make them visually striking but arenβt needed for performance.
- Make small batches first to test your scent strength and texture.
- Keep notes so you can recreate your favourite blends.
β How many steamers will this get me?
Each mould makes 1 Γ 60 g shower steamer. With your ingredients, youβll make around:
- ~35 steamers per batch (using 700 g citric acid + 1,400 g bicarb soda)
- Youβll still have 700 g citric acid left for a second round.
πΏ Essential Oil Guide
Your kit includes essential oils so you can create beautifully scented steamers. You can add more essential oils than in other body products because shower steamers are for inhalation only (not skin use).
Safe Usage Rates
- 1% (mild): ~12 drops (0.6 g) per 60 g steamer
- 2% (stronger): ~24 drops (1.2 g) per 60 g steamer
- Never exceed 2% of your total mix (~20 g EO for a 1 kg batch, or ~44 g EO for a full 2.2 kg kit).
- Start on the lower side for punchy oils (eucalyptus, peppermint, clove, cinnamon) as they can feel intense in steam.
Tips
- Test first: Make a single steamer with 1% EO to check strength before making a big batch.
- Keep notes: Write down your favourite blends so you can recreate them later.
- Stronger is not always better: Steamers are designed to scent the shower space, not overpower it.
β¨ Basic Shower Steamer Recipe
Before committing to a big batch, try a few steamers first. Below is a recipe for 5 Shower Steamers. If you wish to make more, simply double or triple the contents.
Test Batch (~5 steamers, 300 g mix):
- (67%) 201 g Bicarb Soda
- (23%) 69 g Citric Acid
- (8%) 24 g Clay
- (1β2%) 30β120 drops β 3β6 g: Essential Oil (blend into the dry mix)
- Light mist of water as needed
- Optional: a few drops of Colour
π§ Shower Steamer Method (Based on above recipe) β Standard (60 g Moulds)
Makes: ~5 steamers
-
Prep
- Wear gloves and mask to avoid breathing in powders.
- Set out moulds, mixing bowl, and spray bottle of water.
- Ensure the room is dry and low humidity.
-
Mix the Dry Ingredients
- In a large bowl, combine:
- 200 g Bicarb Soda
- 100 g Citric Acid
- Up to 24 g Clay
- Stir well until powders are evenly mixed. (Use your hands as well as a spoon.)
- Optional: add a small amount of colour to the dry mix and blend thoroughly.
-
Add Essential Oils
- Add 30β60 drops EO per 300 g mix.
- Blend oils through the dry mixture thoroughly. (Use your hands as well as a spoon.)
-
Hydrate the Mix
- Lightly mist the mixture with water using your spray bottle, mixing continuously. Add water in small spritzes only to avoid activating the fizz. If there is some activation, quickly blend that area of the mixture in.
- Use your hands as well as a spoon/whisk to combine.
- Test: Squeeze a handful of mixture β it should hold its shape without crumbling or fizzing and remain dry to the touch.
- Mix with your hands until the mixture forms a βkinetic sandβ consistency.
-
Mould Your Steamers
- Spoon the mixture into each cavity of your silicone mould.
- Press the mix down firmly to compact it β this helps the steamer hold its shape once dry.
- Smooth the tops flat for an even finish.
- If using botanicals or decorative toppings, sprinkle them into the base of the mould before adding your mixture.
- Dry & Store
-
- Let dry at room temperature for 24β48 hours, until hard.
- Store in airtight containers to protect from moisture until use.
β¨ Usage
- Place one shower steamer on the floor of your shower, at the back, away from direct drain flow.
- Place the steamer upright (on the side), not flat. You can also take it out and leave it on a drying rack to prolong its use.
- Let warm water activate the fizz and release the aroma.
- Breathe in deeply and enjoy your aromatherapy shower ritual.
β Troubleshooting Your Shower Steamers
- Steamers crumble or wonβt hold their shape β Mixture is too dry. Add a tiny mist of water (one spritz at a time) and remix. It should feel like damp sand and hold together when squeezed.
- Steamers expand or fizz while moulding β Too much water added at once. Always mist lightly and mix quickly. If a patch starts fizzing, blend it in immediately.
- Steamers wonβt come out of the mould cleanly β Mix is either too wet or too dry. If it sticks, dust mould with a little bicarb before pressing. If it crumbles, add one more light spritz of water.
- Steamers crack after drying β Mixture was packed too loosely or dried too quickly. Press firmly into moulds and let them dry at room temperature (avoid direct heat or strong airflow).
- Steamers stay soft or donβt harden β Room may be humid, or too much oil was added. Allow an extra 24β48 hours to dry in a cool, dry place. Use a dehumidifier or silica gel packs if your climate is very humid.
- Steamers develop spots or discolouration β Essential oils, botanicals, or moisture caused reaction spots. Use clean, dry botanicals only and always store bombs in airtight containers.
- Fizz is weak in the shower β Too much oil, clay, or water added. Adjust ratios in your next batch to keep the mix lighter and drier.
