Salt Scrub Kit - Instructions

🛡️ Safety & Storage

  • IMPORTANT: Do not exceed 1% essential oil of total scrub weight (≈ 5 drops per 100 g scrub).
  • Be careful with using the scrub in your shower/bath. The carrier oil can cause the floor to become slippery. Always be mindful that the floor could become slippery when using the salts. Avoid adding more carrier oil than is advised in this recipe.
  • Never apply undiluted essential oils directly to skin — always blend into carrier oil first.
  • For children or sensitive skin, use fewer drops of essential oil.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have preexisting health conditions, we recommend seeking medical advice before using the ingredients in this kit as a precaution.
  • Always use clean, dry tools and bowls when handling your scrub. You must not get water into the jar when applying this product. This can cause bacterial growth and there is no preservative present to fight this.
  • Store finished scrubs in airtight containers, in a cool, dry and dark place.
  • Use within 3–6 months for best freshness.
  • External use only. Avoid face, eyes, broken skin or ingestion.

🌿 How it Works + Tips

  • Make small batches — try blending 50–100 g at a time. This way you can test scent, oiliness, and texture. Small batches allow you to keep products fresher, extending the life of your kit.
  • Adjust texture to your needs — more oil for a creamier, nourishing scrub; less oil for a firmer, exfoliating feel.
  • Clay (optional) — adds a creamier texture and skin-conditioning effect.
  • Mix + match — you don’t need to use everything at once. Switch between your Essential Oils depending on your mood — soothing, refreshing, or uplifting.
  • Less is more with oils — you only need a few drops of essential oil per batch. Start light and build gradually.
  • Keep notes — jot down your favourite combinations so you can recreate them later.

❓ How many uses will this kit make?

Scrub Amount per Shower Approx. Weight Number of Uses (from 1.4 kg salt)
Light exfoliation (1 Tbsp) ~15 g Up to 90 uses
Full body scrub (2 Tbsp) ~30 g Around 45 uses

💡 Tip: Start with a smaller amount and adjust to your preference. Some people like a quick exfoliation on arms and legs, while others use more for a full-body polish.

♻️ What You’ll Have Left (after using all 1.4 kg of salt)

  • Carrier Oils (600 ml total) → Around 200 ml left
  • Essential Oils (30 ml total) → Around 28–29 ml left
  • Clay (100 g optional) → Around 70–85 g left

This means you’ll still have plenty of oils and clay to experiment with more scrubs, try smaller batches, or create other DIY skincare projects.

✨ Start Small — Test Batch (~95 g scrub)

  • 70 g Fine Himalayan Salt
  • 20 g Carrier Oil (blend of base + specialty)
  • 5 g Organic Shea Butter – Refined
  • 2–5 drops Essential Oil
  • 5–10 g Clay (optional) — If you add clay, it is best to slightly increase the oil content or reduce the salt by the same weight.

🧂 Small Salt Scrub Recipe & Method

  1. Prep
    • Lay out your bowl, jars, and ingredients.
    • Ensure everything is clean and dry.
  2. Melt Shea, Mix Oils
    • Gently melt Shea Butter using double-boiler method or microwave in short bursts until liquid. Do not let the butter exceed 50 °C.
    • Once melted, add your carrier oils to the butter. You may need to continue heating the butter, as the carrier oil may cause it to cool.
    • Mix the shea butter & oils together, allow to sit for around 1 hour. (It must return to room temperature.)
  3. Add Oils To Salt
    • Pour salt into your mixing bowl.
    • Slowly drizzle in the oil blend while stirring to coat evenly.
  4. Add Clay (Optional)
    • Mix in clay for a creamier texture.
    • Stir until even.
  5. Package & Store
    • Scoop scrub into clean jars / bags.
    • Label with scent, date made, and notes.
    • Store sealed in a cool, dry place.

✨ Usage

  • Massage a small handful onto damp skin in the shower or bath, using gentle circular motions.
  • Rinse with warm water.
  • Best used as a body scrub only. Avoid face and sensitive areas.
