How to Use

This 100% natural base is designed to be customised with your choice of oils, butters, and water-based ingredients to create a body moisturiser with your preferred texture and benefits.

Basic Formulation Guidelines

✔ 1 part Base — The foundation of your butter, cream, or lotion.

✔ Up to 20% Carrier Oils (based on base weight)
e.g., jojoba, almond, or argan oil for added nourishment.

✔ Up to 5% Butters (based on base weight)
e.g., shea, cocoa, or mango butter for a richer texture.

✔ Up to 10% Glycerine or Water-Soluble Ingredients (of total formulation)
Reduce water when using glycerine or extracts.

✔ Distilled Water
Adjust based on texture preference:

1–2 parts for a thick body butter
3 parts for a soft cream
4–5 parts for a fluid lotion

✔ Up to 2% Essential Oils — or follow supplier guidelines.

Preservative Guidance

🧪 The base has a pH of ~6. Always follow the manufacturer's guidelines for your chosen preservative. Note that some preservatives may affect texture, making the product thicker or thinner.

Thickeners

✔ Disperse in glycerine or oil before adding to avoid clumping.

✔ Allow it to fully hydrate before evaluating texture.

✔ A little goes a long way — too much can affect feel and stability.

💡 Tip: Always test in small batches and adjust based on your preferred consistency.

How to Prepare

Sterilise all tools, jars, and mixing bowls with boiling water. Let air dry completely.
Melt the base gently using a double boiler or heating bath — do not overheat.
Add carrier oils & butters, stirring until fully melted and incorporated.
Slowly mix in the water phase (distilled water + water-soluble products), stirring continuously.
Mix vigorously to ensure the mixture is fully emulsified. Do not allow it to boil.
Remove from heat and stir gently until the temperature drops to around 30°C.
Cool in an ice bath, stirring occasionally until it begins to thicken.
Add essential oils (if using), stir well, and transfer to sterilised jars.
Let it set overnight before adjusting texture.

Storage & Shelf Life

✔ If using a preservative: Store in a cool, dry place, sealed tightly. Avoid sunlight. Use within 3 months. Monitor for changes in texture or scent.

✔ If not using a preservative: Store in the fridge and use within a few days. Check for mould or spoilage.

💡 Tip: Think of it like leftovers — short shelf life without preservatives.

✔ Always keep the lid tightly sealed.

✔ Use clean hands or a clean cosmetic spatula to dispense.

✔ Avoid introducing water into the jar to minimise bacterial growth.
